The Ghosts Of My Old Town A tribute to all effected by the 1967 Bushfires
|

This song is a reflection on the 1967 bushfires that ravaged Southern Tasmania it was inspired by life changing events experienced by my wife's (Sheryl) family including her sister Lorraine, her late mother and father, Vera and Kevin. The families home, all their belongings and personal effects were destroyed by the fire. With enduring spirit and the help of extended family and friends they rebuild their lives and eventually a new home on the site of the old one. The trauma of that day will never be forgotten. Georgie tells some of the story of my great, great grandfather George Bullock and his wife Mary Morgan. George was a convict sent from England(on the shipTortoise) with his brothers John and Thomas for stealing a sheep. He was subsequently given a ticket of leave however, he had no means to support Mary and their new born son(George Morgan Bullock) so he held up the Cressy Inn and was sentenced to the scragger (hangman) upon the three legged mare (the gallows) One week before the hanging, he was reprieved and sent to Norfolk Island. He eventually came back to Tasmania and it is believed that he again took up with Mary after his emancipation. |

Old Seadogs is all about my old seadog mate, John. He was a true man of the sea and we had some good times together both onshore and offshore. |
